Financial Aid

Newman Theological College Bursaries

No student should be deterred from attending NTC for lack of financial resources. Students are eligible to apply for government student aid assistance for NTC programs that are designated for government student assistance. When an applicant for NTC has been accepted for enrollment, an application for financial assistance may be submitted to the appropriate authorities in the province of residence. You can apply for funding online. Please speak with the Registrar for assistance or enquiries regarding completion of Student Loan applications.

Newman Theological College offers bursaries and scholarships to new and continuing students enrolled in NTC programs and courses.

NTC bursaries and scholarships are awarded for tuition only on the basis of the following criteria: financial need, involvement in the NTC community (current students) and involvement in the Christian community (new and continuing students), qualities of leadership, and academic performance. The Financial Aid Committee reviews all completed applications and determines the amount of funds to be distributed. Students who will be receiving bursaries will receive a letter informing them of the decision of the Financial Assistance Committee before the end of June. Late applicants are to contact the Dean of Students for more information about bursaries or scholarships that may still be available after the initial distribution in June.

NTC reserves the right to publish the names of all award recipients.

Student Aid Resources

No student should be deterred from attending NTC for lack of financial resources. The federal and provincial governments offer lending programs and students are encouraged to access these funds. Most NTC programs are recognized and registered with Alberta Student Loans and Canada Student Loans. When an applicant for NTC has been accepted for enrollment, an application for financial assistance may be submitted to the appropriate authorities in the province of residence. Please speak with the Registrar for assistance or enquiries regarding Student Loan applications.

Government Student Funding

If you are a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada, or a protected person, you may apply for a government student loan. Students who need financial assistance are advised to apply online to their province of residence (you are a resident of the province or territory where you have most recently lived for at least 12 consecutive months without being a full-time student at a post-secondary institution during those 12 months). Students should apply for government student loans at least 6-8 weeks prior to the first day of classes. Students can start applying for loans online each June for the upcoming year. You are automatically considered for non-repayable grants when you apply for a full-time government loan. For more information on grant types and eligibility, please visit the government of Canada site: www.canlearn.ca. Loans are distributed in two parts: 50% of funding in the Fall term (typically in federal loan funds) and the remaining 50% in the Winter term (typically in provincial loan funds). To be eligible for full-time government loans, students must register for and complete at least 9 credits in each term. When studying full time, government loans are interest-free. One term only loans are available; apply two months prior to your class start date to ensure that funding is available on time.

Please Note: NTC is considered a private institution for student loan purposes.
