“On Good Soil”: Pastoral Planning for Evangelization and Catechesis with Adults will provide relevant reflection, constructive suggestions and sound orientations for effective, life-giving evangelizing and catechetical ministry with adults.

GENERAL COURSE OBJECTIVES:

  • Understand the Church’s mission to evangelize and catechize.
  • Explore how we proclaim the gospel message today.
  • Examine the pedagogy of the faith.
  • Understand the fundamental tasks of catechesis.
  • Learn the strategies for the Catholic Church in Canada.

COURSE STRUCTURE AND HIGHLIGHTS:

Week 1: Church’s Mission to Evangelize and Catechize

  • Understand that the Church exists to evangelize.
  • Determine the local situation.

Week 2: Proclaiming the Gospel Message Today

  • Explore the norms and criteria for presenting the gospel message in catechesis.
  • Discuss the role of the Catechism of the Catholic Church within the deposit of the faith.

Week 3: The Pedagogy of the Faith

  • Explore divine pedagogy.
  • Discover the elements of methodology in regards to divine pedagogy and catechesis.

Week 4: The Harvest is Plentiful

  • Learn the fundamental tasks of catechesis.
  • Learn the criteria for authentic and effective catechesis.

Week 5: Strategies for the Catholic Church in Canada

  • Understand the models of implementation.
  • Examine the guidelines, principles and outcomes for pastoral planning.

ASSESSMENT:

“On Good Soil” consists of ten lessons and ten assignments, as well as weekly discussions; with each assignment weighted at 10% (percent) of the total grade. Completion of the entire course is determined by either a pass or fail.

TECHNICAL SKILLS AND EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS:

  • You must have Internet access. A high speed connection, either ADSL or cable, is recommended.
  • You should know how to use a web browser to navigate the web to locate educational resources and download files.
  • You will need the files management skills necessary to create directories, to save files and to retrieve files.
